I have a friend in Sydney that desperately needs work please!!!
I have a friend that had a one-off run in with the law a few years ago and now with his criminal record is finding job seeking incredibly challenging. He had a great semi-corporate job for 12 years in the city and is incredibly bright and articulate however due to this one error in judgment has completely – in his words – “fucked his chances of being treated as a regular human”. He continues to apply for jobs (and has been offered some great opportunities over the past few months) but as soon as a police check is needed, or working with children check required any offers have been immediately withdrawn.
He also continually has business ideas – he thinks very entrepreneurially – but the issue of no income is always a stumbling block. He has started to go down the path of thinking his only option is to become a male escort – mmmm – not to say he’s not a good looking lad! – but he has a gorgeous 4 year old son that idolises him so I’m hoping there are other possibilities….
He has moved home to live with his parents as just couldn’t earn enough to sustain living close by to his ex and little boy – that means a hell of a lot of commuting to and from but he has taken the opportunity over last 2 years to spend as much time as an active caregiver as possible. He has a family friend that gives him occasional casual work as a labourer– but it’s unpredictable and not anything that can be relied upon to be a constant.
I’ve been telling him I feel eventually he will come across someone that needed a break at some point in their life and will give him the same opportunity – he’s not such a believer.
After a late night text conversation last night where he obviously was feeling completely desperate and dejected I’ve decided to try and help – a bit tricky, as I understand men are a proud species…
