One of the most common questions I get from business-minded is “How on earth do you generate all that media for 100 Things?”. As if there was some type of magic behind it, I always embarrassingly reply with the truth; “I don’t know- it just happens“. I wish I was clever enough to create a strategy behind it but the reality is that every media story, book and documentary offer simply comes out of the blue.
Never really stopping to calculate how much media attention does gather, I suppose you could say that it’s been quite overwhelming. From radio, TV and print, 100 Things has a global attraction and it does make me laugh to think that I’m contacted on most days by someone wanting to share the story in some new and unique way. I’m flattered!
Having a little time to think about WHY this happens, i have a feeling that the reason 100 Things keeps getting approached is to do with the simple idea that it’s a positive story that resonates with people on a primal level. It’s the simplicity of it (and me!) that somehow get’s people to consider the important notion of happiness and purpose, often forgotten in our society. It seems that when you combination attacking life with a pure and good purpose, with moving forward with open arms, all the other bits and pieces that can aid the process (like media support) tend to fall into place as they need. I could be wrong, but that’s my thought anyway!
This week it started with a live in-studio interview with Kyle and Jackie O from 2DayFM’s morning show (CLICK HERE FOR AUDIO CLIP) and ended with a lovely little article in the Rocks Magazine (distributed on flights out to the mines in Western Australia). It’s awesome to see what happens when you focus on the end goal!
Thanks to Ben and Tim who both approached me the interviews! Legends
100 Things… What’s on your list?
